We were on the first tour of 2016 and what a great trip we had through Desolation Sound. The boat was comfortable, had everything we possibly needed, and the food – WOW was that absolutely delicious and most ingredients were directly from their garden!! The guides were filled with lots of information – ask them to tell you about the area. – Heidi, Colorado, USA
IMG_5703What a treat it was to cruise Desolation Sound aboard Agate Pass. It was a privilege to be on a boat with such a capable waterman and skipper. As we made our way around each cove or inlet, our wonderful guides, Ted and Joanie, shared their wealth of knowledge about the anchorages, wildlife, and local information. The lunch of fresh local salmon and a salad made from their own organic garden was delicious. The extra touch of edible flowers added to the colorful presentation. Agate Pass is a great boat; it shines with pride of ownership. As sailors from the San Francisco Bay, California, we truly appreciated Ted and Joanie’s seamanship and their warm welcome making sure all on board were well taken care of. We plan to return one day, perhaps on our own sailboat, or we might just switch to a warm, comfy yacht like Agate Pass! Thank you Ted and Joanie. It was delightful getting to know you while enjoying the beauty of Desolation Sound. Hands Down, it has been the highlight of our visit! – Susan and David, Woodacre, California, USA
WOW, what a great trip to Desolation Sound with Beyond the Road Adventures. Captain Ted and his first mate Joanie were great guides. Orcas made the trip even more interesting. The lunch was excellent. Would do it again and highly recommend it!
We took the 5 hour Desolation Sound lunch trip after considering zodiac and kayak tours. For my wife with Multiple Sclerosis, the trip was fantastic!. She negotiated the ramp to the dock and onto the boat with her forearm crutches, inspiring another passenger, using a cane, to do the same. Ted and Joanie, the owners of the boat, were more than helpful, offering to pick up folks at another slip to avoid the steep, low-tide angle of the ramp. A call ahead will most certainly ease the way for anyone with moderate mobility issues. The boat itself has a generous length to width ratio, making for a stable platform and very comfortable ride. This is important for folks like my wife whose MS compromises her balance and stability. We found that, with help, every part of the boat was reachable, including the wonderful upper bridge with its all-around views and sociability. Joanie and Ted are absolutely wonderful hosts. An amazing lunch of home grown salad and perfectly grilled steelhead, topped off with a swim, was a real highlight. – John, Seattle, Washington, USA
gal9A perfect day…just got back to the hotel from a lunch cruise to Desolation Sound aboard the Agate Pass (Beyond the Road Adventures): couldn’t have had a nicer experience! Mid September is not so busy with boats in the Sound: the peacefulness and the scenery are lovely, the sun was warm, the seas were dotted with many, many kayakers and several sailboats and yachts lay in anchor amongst the many shelters coves. The BBQ’d steelhead trout lunch with gourmet salad was beautifully presented…a 5 star restaurant could not have done it better! Yes, we would most definitely recommend this trip. – Edda, Madeira Park, BC, Canada
We have traveled on the Agate Pass a few times, it is always delightful and leaves me with a feeling of being on a great adventure in slow travel mode. The Copeland Island Cruise is wonderful, the Desolation Sound cruise is spectacular but the three day slow travel trip left me with a feeling of exploring our Canada in a most intimate and loving way. I love this country and this mode of travel gave me the feeling of privilege of being one the the luckiest people on earth to be able to travel through it in comfort and in great company. With the backdrop of marine life, mountains, sunsets and beauty all around, I was at peace with the world. Thank you Ted and Joanie, you are the best! – Powell River, BC, Canada
Fabulous trip! You run a first class operation, and the day couldn’t have been more perfect. You are wonderful hosts, and the food was a 14 out of 10! Will tell all our friends. – Jessica, John and Angela

Beautiful relaxing day! Fantastic lunch, most beautiful prawns in the world! Thank you again, this was our second time with you. Hope to see you again! – Lydia and Roland, Saanich, BC, Canada
